GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Geography and Urban Planning Program (GUPP), at Humanities Department, aims to provide students with high quality education within a motivated learning environment. It provides students with theoretical knowledge and skills. GUPP graduates will be creative thinkers, good urban planners, effective communicator and researchers and life long learners. The program enables students to deal with social, economical, physical and environmental problems at the local level provides them with the field training course according to the following general and specific requirements;
1- Credit for the field training in GUPP is given by authorities related to urban planning, municipalities, telecommunications, geographic information systems and geodatabase management for at least 120 hours in total. The trainee must be immersed in the experience in order to receive the concepts and principles of urban planning, GIS, remote sensing and applied geography. Benefits should continue throughout the training's subsequent course work as students bring additional insight into the classroom.
2- The field training course has a specific and ********ed time schedule; a definite beginning and end. It will continue for 8 weeks.
3- The training institute and students have to follow up the Specific Requirements mentioned below.
4- A student may take no more than three-hour course, apart from the field training, during the term (typically during summer semester).
5- Each student must receive an approval signed from the Head of Department before starting of the field training course
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Specific requirements are distributed to cover time span before, during and after the field training as follows;
Before the beginning of training:
1- The training institute must provide, both to the faculty coordinator and to the student, objectives to be met during the field training, including description of a formal training program the trainee will receive.
2- The GUPP coordinator must approve the training
During the training:
3- A formal training program must be provided by the training institute applying the course.
4- The student must keep a weekly diary comprising tasks and work experience gained during the field training, a copy from this list must be provided to the GUPP coordinator by student.
After the training:
5- A written approved performance evaluation form must be provided to the student and the GUPP coordinator representing student's performance.
6- The student must write a report demonstrating the knowledge and skills gained during the field training. This report should be submitted to the GUPP field training coordinator, no later than two weeks after the training. A presentation at the department level is also expected from students by the end of training

Before enrolling for Field Training:
Carefully read the Qatar University, Department of Humanities field Training Policy.
Study the Evaluation of Trainee form and be sure that you are prepared to score highly on each criterion.
Fill in the Field Training Application.
Have your supervisor (at employer) sign the Field Trainee Application.
Get signature approval of the faculty coordinator on the Field Trainee Application.
During the Training Period:
Keep weekly diaries comprising a chronological list of all work experience gained in the training program.
Email the diary to the faculty coordinator weekly.
After the Training Program:
Write and timely submit a paper demonstrating the knowledge gained from the Training program.
Submit a diary of work experience, if you have not already turned it in.
Determine that the supervisor from the organization has submitted to the faculty coordinator a written evaluation of your performance
